Week 8 shopping & Menu

Menu:

BBQ Cups
Chicken Enchilada Soup
Pot Roast
BBQ Beef Sandwiches
Hot Dogs & Mac 'N' Cheese
Leftovers (Soup)
Grilled Brats with Onion and Peppers

I have to show my shopping results a bit differently this week. Normally it's pretty cool outside and I don't have an issue running to all my grocery stores (usually 3) without having to drop anything off at home.  That was not the case today. Summer seems to have officially arrived here in the Rockies. I had to drop off all my Walmart groceries at home before running to the other 2.

So I've decided to show my receipts instead of a pic of the groceries since half were already put away before I came home from my 2nd trip out. Same concept, right?

Walmart: $32.95
King Soopers: $ 18.21
Albertsons: $ 12.76

TOTAL: $63.92

If you really need to know everything I bought, click on the picture and it'll open up larger. I did really well this week. I scored a few great deals. I got 18 eggs for $1.00...Awesome. A block of cheddar for $1.00. I found whole wheat hamburger buns (for my bbq beef sammies) on the quick sale rack for $0.79. I ALWAYS check that rack. It's usually bakery items that are about to hit their "Sell By" date and are reduced in price for quick sales. King Soopers has a section in the meat case that is the same thing. You can get some fantastic deals there.

  1. I cannot get over how little you pay for groceries!! I've never seen a dozen eggs under $2, a gallon of milk costs AT LEAST $3.98, and the smallest size bricks of cheese cost at least $4. And Manitoba is one of the less expensive Canadian provinces in which to live!!!!

  2. (if we lived in a larger centre, the prices would be a little lower, but still nowhere CLOSE to what you get to pay!)

  3. I've heard that it's considerably more expensive in Canada. Heck, when I go home to California I get extreme sticker shock while at the grocery store. We're fortunate to have a lower cost of living here...but the average pay is less too. It balances out for the most part. That deal on eggs was fantastic...I couldn't pass it up! Milk is usually right around $2.00 for a gallon...I don't buy organic, just local.

Do you have a variety of grocery stores to choose from?

  4. Yes ~ expensive and MORE expensive!! We live near a rather small town and have only two grocery stores to choose from. Well, there's a third one closer to home, but their prices just don't even compare. The one large chain store is cheaper overall than the other ~ a local co-op ~ but I'm finding more and more items that are actually less expensive at the co-op. (plus their selection, organization, and customaer service are way better) I find this really aggravating because I HATE shopping at more than one place, but if I don't want to go over my own weekly budget ($110), I just may have to be willing to start doing it on a regular basis.

  5. You know, I used to refuse to go to more than one store. It can be a hassel, that's for sure. I used to be done with shopping in about an hour and now it takes me at least 2 hours. Sometimes longer. But it really has made a difference in how much I spend. Even if an item is only $0.25 cheaper here or $0.40 cheaper there...it adds up quickly!

  6. With my youngest starting school full-time in September, I guess I won't have any excuse for not taking the extra time!

    I really enjoy your blog!

  7. Look at it like a little vacation! Haha! I have to take my kiddos with me, so it's not always pretty. And by "it" I mean me. :)

I'm glad you like it! Thanks for reading!!
